The Wine Experience
Wine in the Valleys
Have you ever noticed
that many of the wines we enjoy come from valleys? You know like
Napa in California , the Willamette in Oregon, Barossa in Australia
and so on around the world. There's a good reason for that.
Nature's valleys are
great places to grow grapes because of the way the weather acts,
the sun shines, moisture gathers and soils mingle. Since valleys
are formed from hillsides overlooking flatlands we get all of nature's
variety in one place - hilltops where the sun first touches the
vines in the morning while fog lies over the valley floor.
Midday heat on the
floor that radiates into cool evenings. Slopes where topsoil is
washed away and vines dig down for moisture.
Winding
rivers and ancient gravel beds covered by blends of soils from those
surrounding hills. Valleys trap the environment into an infinite
variety of ecosystems and microclimates...and put a touch of Mother
Nature in every grape.
